Timberland & CONCEPT(K)

CONSTRUCT:10061

The collection challenges the boot-making process and envisions the future icons of Timberland.

Following the latest CONSTRUCT:10061 Workshop, Timberland and CONCEPTKICKS will launch a limited-release collection exclusively through HYPEBEAST. CONSTRUCT:10061 brings together a diverse range of designers, makers and innovators from around the world, mixing new perspectives and ways of working to push the boundaries of boot-making. This collection features five silhouettes that revitalise the icons of Timberland whilst showcasing the innovations of five creators.

CONSTRUCT:10061 is collaborative initiative between Timberland and CONCEPTKICKS that began in 2018. A cross-pollination of industries and creatives, each annual CONSTRUCT:1006 invites attendees into a new working environment to produce innovative and unexpected design solutions. Formulated as week-long workshop, the latest event continued to to lift the lid on the often-guarded innovations of the footwear industry by highlighting the raw processes of product creation, development and responsible design.

The latest event was set against the background of The Shed: Timberland’s unique New Hampshire-based prototyping lab. Spearheaded by Timberland’s Advanced Concepts & Energy Team, The Shed elevates Timberland’s innovation capabilities, establishing new 3D digital prototyping capabilities with on-site injection-moulding, leather pattern-cutting, quad-stitching, embossing and more.

Focused upon the symbiotic relationship of nature and technology, attendees were asked to create a shoe within the single-colour palette of “Cosmic latte”. Named after the average colour of galaxies as perceived from the Earth, this absence of colour choice encouraged designers to reconsider their aesthetic inclinations and simultaneously push their knowledge of form, function and material.

Now, Timberland has transformed five selected silhouettes of CONSTRUCT:10061 into wearable product. The TECTRA-inspired (Technical Transparency) collection envisions the future of the brand with premium Timberland materials for durability and quality, fitted with Vibram sole units and responsible materials like ReBOTL™ fabric lining and bio-based Dyneema® textiles and uppers. Sold exclusively through Earth Month, the collection highlights the inspiration and eco-innovation built into each boot and Timberland’s contemporary DNA.

This release features original designs by Téla D’Amore, Jaimus Tailor, Jesus Diaz, Daniel Bailey, and John Chen. Each creator brings their unique perspective and design language to the boot-making process, with an even bolder approach than previous iterations of the workshop.

Fans of the Timberland brand may recognize new imaginings of their favourite styles, like the C61 Stacked 10-Inch Boot, designed by Téla D’Amore of Who Decides War. A playful take on Timberland’s original Super Boot, the design is characterised by an elongated collar and an extra stacked EVA sole. The utility driven silhouette is given a contemporary finish with wrapped leather laces around the instep.

The C61 Extendor Boot, designed by CONCEPTKICKS’ own John Chen, offers an adjustable silhouette through its extendable leather gaiter. The collapsible nature of the boot nods to the iconic paper light structures of Isamu Noguchi while offering its wearer a multitude of states to style; from mid to high, structured to slouchy.

The Euro Hiker-inspired C61 Neo Veil Hiker, designed by Daniel Bailey and Jesus Diaz of Akmé, transforms the iconic Timberland silhouette with an external Lycra® shroud. The distinct construction of the boot  provides a point of interest as it blurs the line between the upper and sole junction. This is prominently highlighted by the transition between a square outsole to rounded toe.

Jaimus Tailor, founder of Greater Goods, presents the C61 Woven Clog, combining an outdoor attitude with hand-finished sentiments. The design boasts an upper constructed from woven strips of nylon webbing whilst a neoprene collar provides a form-fitting lockdown for the clog.

The final offering, the C61 Dy-Tec World Hiker, is designed by Daniel Bailey and John Chen. This shoe is study of material technicality within the framework of an iconic Timberland style. The boot is constructed from a bio-based Dyneema® upper which is sandwiched with a spacer mesh. The design is finished with a climbing rubber around the toe, providing additional structure and volume to the chunky Vibram® Bristol outsole.

In honour of its name, 61 pairs of each CONSTRUCT:10061 design will launch on April 24th and be sold exclusively through HBX.com
