Between The Lines 028 : Minezo Sports Shoes

Remaking 100-Year Old Sports Silhouettes by Hand

Minezo Sports Shoes emerges from Tokyo’s deep-rooted shoemaking culture, where generations of craftsmanship continue to shape contemporary practice. Built on a foundation of Goodyear construction and handsewn welting, the brand departs from traditional dress shoe conventions by reinterpreting early athletic footwear through the discipline of leather shoemaking. Its designs draw on the stripped-back logic of vintage sports shoes, translated into a refined, hybrid form that sits between sneaker and dress shoe. This is most clearly expressed in Minezo’s proprietary last, which combines a sneaker-informed toe shape for natural movement with the structured support of mid-century leather footwear.

At the core of Minezo’s approach is the deliberate pairing of handsewn welt construction with a performance-led design mindset, using high-grade materials sourced from leading European tanneries and specialist Japanese suppliers. Operating on a made-to-measure basis, the brand refines fit at an individual level, eliminating the need for break-in while maintaining long-term comfort. Subtle construction innovations—such as a reduced welt profile and elongated heel counter—create a sharper, more athletic silhouette without sacrificing durability. Across its evolving range, including the Runner and newer basketball-inspired models, Minezo continues to merge technical precision with cultural reference, quietly expanding the boundaries of both craft and contemporary footwear.
