Paris in winter remains one of the clearest temperature checks for the footwear industry, offering a quieter, more honest view of how brands are actually thinking about product. For FW26 it felt less like a showcase of new silhouettes and more like a study in how footwear design is maturing. Across our Top 15 products (in no particular order), brands leaned into hybrid systems that blur traditional categories — dress shoes built on running soles, outdoor construction applied to urban forms, and performance tooling reframed as everyday product. Material experiments emerged as a defining theme, from Diemme’s pony hair leathers and Samsara’s agricultural fibres to Aliveform’s biomechanically engineered 3D prints. There’s a growing confidence in restraint: fewer visual statements, more emphasis on how shoes are made, how they function, and how they age. Performance language continues to shape fashion footwear, seen in projects such as the finale between ON x PAF, and Reebok, where technical platforms now double as aesthetic signatures. Taken together, FW26 points to a shift away from trend cycles and towards footwear as a long-term design system - slower, smarter, and grounded in real-world use.
